Game Recap: Softball |
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. -- Bradley struck for two runs in the first and led 5-3 in the sixth, but Hawaii scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to rally for an 8-5 victory over the Braves Sunday afternoon to close out action at the Golden State Classic.

Senior Kealia Wysocki went 2-for-4 with three RBI and fellow senior Sydney Young scored twice in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate for Bradley, which evened its record at 5-5 with the loss.

Young opened the game with a single and the Braves had two on with one out after junior Taise Thompson was hit by a pitch.  Wysocki gave Bradley an early 2-0 lead with a two-run single to center for her team-leading ninth and 10th RBI of the year.

Hawaii (4-6 overall) would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning.  Brittnee Rossi led off the Hawaii half of the first with a single and moved to third on a Nawai Kaupe single.  Rossi scored on a groundout to cut the Bradley lead in half at 2-1.

The Rainbow Wahine threatened again in the bottom of the second, loading the bases with a single, Bradley error and hit batter.  Freshman pitcher Morgan Radford got a groundout to get out of the jam, however, as the Braves held onto the lead.

Bradley added a run in the third after singles by sophomore Camryn Monteer and Thompson to open the frame.  Wysocki reached on a fielder's choice and Monteer was able to score on the play thanks to a Hawaii error to push the BU advantage to 3-1.

Hawaii was able to tie it up in the bottom half of the inning.  Cailee Heen led off with a triple and a two-run homer by Angelique Ramos knotted the score at 3-3.

The Braves struck for another run in the fourth with Young sparking a two-out rally with a bunt single.  Monteer was hit by a pitch and Thompson drew a walk to load the bases.  Wysocki was able to reach on an error that would have ended the inning, allowing Young to race home with the go-ahead run (4-3).

Thompson, who took over for Radford in the circle for Bradley in the third, got out of her own jam in the fourth.  A walk and hit batter with two outs loaded the bases for Hawaii, but Thompson got a groundout to third to get out of the inning unscathed.  The Rainbow Wahine left another two runners in scoring position in a scoreless fifth inning.

Junior Vicki Zaluske reached on an error to start the Bradley half of the sixth and eventually scored on a Thompson single to left to give the Braves a 5-3 advantage.

A big five-run bottom half of the sixth for Hawaii put the Rainbow Wahine in front 8-5.  With two on and one out, Bradley's second error of the day loaded the bases.  Rachel Sabourin drove home the first run of the frame with a single and a fielder's choice later in the inning allowed Heen to race home from third to tie the game at 5-5.  A hit batter with the bases loaded plated another run as Hawaii grabbed a 6-5 lead.  Two more runs came home on a two-out, Kaupe single as Bradley found itself trailing 8-5 heading to the seventh.

Bradley got a leadoff single from sophomore Keeler van Breusegen to start the seventh, but Hawaii got an out on a fielder's choice and turned a game-ending double play to close out the victory.

The Braves return to action at the Charleston Classic, opening tournament play Thursday with a 4 p.m. (CST) game at College of Charleston.
