ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the first time in her career, Bradley sophomore Megan Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golfer of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Welch posted the first top-10 finish of her career, tying for ninth to help pace Bradley Women's Golf to a ninth-place finish in the 18-team field at the 18th annual Rio Verde Invitational in the spring opener for the Braves this past weekend.

After an opening round 79 Friday, Welch matched the low round of her career with a pair of 72's Sunday to finish at seven-over 223 for the tournament.  Welch, who was three shots out of the top five, was the top MVC finisher in the field which included Missouri State and Illinois State.  She was even on the par 3's for the tournament and her nine birdies tied for the third most in the tournament

The MVC Golfer of the Week honor is the first for Welch and the second this season for the Braves, with senior Taylor Ledwein earning the distinction back at the end of October in Bradley's final outing of the fall.

Currently fourth on the team with a 77.79 season stroke average, Welch has posted a 74.33 average over her last six rounds and finished in the top 20 in each of her last three outings.

Bradley Women's Golf returns to action March 9 & 10 at the River Landing Classic in Wilmington, N.C.
