Game Recap: Softball |
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Sophomore Lucy Mead and junior Stacia Seeton both homered, but tournament-host New Mexico State answered with five homers of its own to top Bradley Softball 13-4 Friday to wrap up the first day of the Troy Cox Classic.

Seeton's homer was the 22nd of her career, moving her into sole possession of third place in Bradley history, while Mead collected her seventh career dinger in the loss, which dropped the Braves to 1-1 on the year.

A leadoff walk in the bottom of the second proved costly for freshman Morgan Radford, who made her first start in the circle as a Brave.  Chloe Rivas led off the inning with a walk and Casie Roberto followed with a two-run homer to left as the Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  New Mexico State tacked on another run later in the frame.  Matalasi Faapito doubled and eventually scored on a Bradley error to push the Aggies lead to 3-0.  New Mexico State would leave a pair in scoring position to end the inning.

Bradley got a run back in the top of the third.  Senior Sydney Young put down a bunt single and moved to second on a groundout.  Senior Allison Apke drove in Young from second with her first hit of the year to cut the New Mexico St. lead to 3-1.

New Mexico State (2-0 overall) took advantage of a walk and Bradley error to start the bottom half of the third with Faapito belting a three-run homer to push the Aggies lead to 6-1.

A two-run homer by Ramsay Lopez in the New Mexico State half of the fourth gave the Aggies an 8-1 advantage.

Junior Taise Thompson led off the Bradley fifth with a double and Mead cut the New Mexico State lead to 8-3 with a two-out, two-run homer.  The Braves hit their third homer of the day and second of the game when Seeton followed with a solo shot to cut the deficit to 8-4.

A five-run bottom of the fifth closed out the 13-4 victory for New Mexico State.  Faapito led off the frame with her second homer of the game.  Gabby Aragon followed a pair of walks with a RBI double and Nikki Butler added a RBI double of her town to make it an 11-4 advantage.  Lopez smacked her second homer of the night, a two-run shot, to cap the 13-4 win for the Aggies.

Bradley continues play at the Troy Cox Classic Saturday, taking on Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. (CST) before a 12:30 p.m. (CST) rematch with Arkansas.
