Game Recap: Softball |
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Senior Kealia Wysocki went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI, while fellow senior Emma Jackson tossed a two-hit, complete game shutout to help power Bradley to a 10-0 victory over UTEP as the Braves closed out play at the season-opening Troy Cox Classic Sunday afternoon.

Bradley (2-3 overall) slugged two home runs in the victory, with junior Stacia Seeton adding a three-run homer for her second dinger of the season.  Jackson improved to 2-1 on the young season as she picked up her first complete game shutout since blanking Missouri State April 7, 2019.

The Braves wasted no time getting to UTEP (0-4 overall) starter Isabella Kelly, striking for three runs in the bottom of the first.  Jackson worked around a one-out walk in the top of the first.  In the bottom half of the frame, senior Sydney Young got things started with a one-out bunt single and junior Taise Thompson followed with a single to left.  Wysocki drove in both runners with a three-run homer to left, moving into a tie with fellow senior Allison Apke for the Bradley career home run record with her 27th.

UTEP was unable to take advantage of another one-out walk in the top of the second and the Miners came up empty after a one-out single in the top of the third.

Bradley broke the game open with three more runs in the bottom of the third.  Wysocki ripped a one-out double and Seeton had a single to left to put two runners on.  Apke drove in Wysocki and pinch runner Brooklyn Bane with a triple to push the BU lead to 5-0.  Apke eventually scored when sophomore Camryn Monteer reached on an error to push the advantage to 6-0.

Four more runs in the bottom of the fourth gave the Braves a commanding 10-0 lead.  Freshman Avry Blume led off the inning with a single and Bradley had two on after a Thompson walk.  Wysocki drove in Blume from second with a RBI single.  Seeton belted a home run off the top of the fence in center, with her three-run shot giving Bradley a 10-0 lead.

Jackson didn't allow a runner to advance past second base in the shutout, surrendering a two-out double in the top of the fifth.  A popout ended UTEP's best scoring chance of the day, however, as Jackson closed out the shutout.

Bradley returns to action Friday, opening play at the Golden State Classic in Lake Elsinore, Calif., with a noon (CST) game against UC Davis.
