Game Recap: Softball |
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Bradley hit three homers and had six extra-base hits as the Braves wrapped up the second day of play at the Governors Classic with a 10-2 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday night.

Senior Allison Apke hit her team-leading fifth homer and also had a triple in a 2-for-3 outing in which she scored three runs and drove in one.  Junior Taise Thompson hit a homer as well, after belting a dinger in the day's earlier game against Austin Peay, and fellow junior Jillian Navarro smashed her second homer with a sixth-inning blast to cap the scoring.

Emma Jackson struck out a season-high seven in the complete game victory, evening her record at 5-5 on the year as she matched her win total from her junior season.

Bradley (13-9 overall) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, thanks to a Lucy Mead double to start the game.  She came around to score on a two-out single up the middle by Thompson, who drove in three in the contest, as the Braves grabbed an early 1-0 lead.

Purdue Fort Wayne (3-17 overall) tied it up with a run in the second.  Alaina White had a leadoff double and scored on a one-out double off the bat of Olivia Stansbury to tie the game at 1-1.

The Mastodons struck for another run in the bottom of the third.  Brooke Imel had a one-out infield single and stole second before moving to third on a wild pitch.  She eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Morganne Deeny as Purdue Fort Wayne went in front 2-1.

Bradley answered with three runs in the top of the fourth, however, to retake the lead at 4-2.  Apke was hit by a pitch, Navarro singled and freshman Bella Mauries drew a walk to load the bases.  Sophomore Grace French drove in two with a single up the middle and later in the inning junior Stacia Seeton drew a bases loaded walk to plate another run.  After leaving four on base in the first three innings, Bradley left the bases loaded in the fourth.

Purdue Fort Wayne had two on with one out after an error and single in the bottom half of the fourth.  Jackson got out of the jam with a fly out and strikeout to help the Braves keep the two-run advantage.

Apke led off the Bradley half of the fifth with a solo homer, her fifth of the year and school record 32nd of her career, to give the Braves a 5-2 edge.

Jackson escaped another jam in the bottom of the fifth.  A one-out error and two-single gave Purdue Fort Wayne two base runners, but a groundout to first ended the threat.

Bradley broke the game open with a five-run sixth.  Mead led off with a bunt single and sophomore Camryn Monteer drew a walk.  After the pair advanced on a wild pitch, Seeton plated Mead from third with a sacrifice fly.  Thompson followed with a two-run homer to left center to make it an 8-2 Bradley lead.  Apke then legged out a two-out triple for her second three-bagger of the season and came home on a two-run homer to right by Navarro as the BU lead reached 10-2.

Jackson hit the first batter she faced in the bottom half of the sixth, only to settle down and retire the next three batters she faced to close out the complete game win.

Bradley closes out play at the Governors Classic Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. game against
