Game Recap: Softball |
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – After dropping an extra-inning contest to tournament-host Austin Peay Friday, Bradley Softball got revenge with a 7-1 victory over the Governors Saturday afternoon on the second day of action at the Governors Classic.

Sophomore Grace French drove in a pair of runs in a 1-for-3 effort at the plate in addition to picking up the win in the circle for the Braves with a complete game effort.  Junior Taise Thompson hit her first home run of the season and seniors Kealia Wysocki and Allison Apke combined for six of Bradley's nine hits on the day.  Wysocki was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs, while Apke went 2-for-3 with a run and one RBI.

Bradley (12-9 overall) opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second.  Walks by Apke and Thompson along with a Wysocki single loaded the bases to start the inning.  Junior Jillian Navarro drove home a run with a sacrifice fly and French plated another run when she reached on an error.  Apke scored the third run of the inning when she came home on a wild pitch to give the Braves a 3-0 lead.

French worked around a one-out single in the bottom half of the second and Bradley added three more runs in the top of the third.  Junior Stacia Seeton walked to start the frame and Thompson ripped a two-run homer to left center for her first home run of the year.  With two on after Apke and Wysocki singles, French drove in another run with a single to left as Bradley pushed the advantage to 6-0.

Austin Peay (8-11 overall) was able to get a run in the bottom of the third after Emily Moore led off the inning with a single.  Moore stole second and moved to third on a groundout, before coming home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bailey Shorter as the Governors cut the BU lead to 6-1.

Both teams stranded a pair of runners during the fourth inning and the fifth inning saw both pitchers sit the other squad down in order.  In the sixth, Austin Peay had a one-out single and walk to put a pair on, only to have French strikeout the next two batters to get out of the jam.

Bradley added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an Apke RBI single.  Thompson walked to start the frame and the Braves had two on for Apke after Wysocki singled for her fourth hit of the contest.  An Apke single down the left field line allowed Thompson to cross as the Braves took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

French, who improved to 5-0 on the year, struck out two in the seventh and retired Austin Peay in order to close out the complete game win.  She matched a career-high with a season-best seven strikeouts in the win.

Bradley continues play at the Governors Classic this evening with a game against Purdue Fort Wayne that will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
