Kaboom! Awards: Orsborn Award Finalist Jake Hoffert

The 2020 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, continues with a look at the second of four Charles Orsborn Award finalists -- Jake Hoffert of the men's cross country and track programs.

Honoring Bradley's former four-sport student-athlete, Men's Basketball Head Coach and Director of Athletics, the Charles Orsborn Award is the most-prestigious honor Bradley University bestows upon a graduating senior student-athlete and recognizes the ability of the winner to combine athletic and academic success with community service. The award is selected by the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (IAC), following a thorough review of all six nominees and interviews with the four finalists.

A Yorkville, Illinois native, Hoffert is the most accomplished cross country athlete in school history, representing Bradley at the national championship on two occasions. He is the only Brave to win two MVC Cross Country Individual Championships and is the only runner in school history to receive all-region honors four times. He also has competed at the NCAA outdoor track championships twice, while earning all-conference accolades five times at the MVC Track Championships

Academically, Jake has stayed at the front of the pack as well. He has received numerous conference and departmental accolades, including the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and the State Farm Good Neighbor Award, while being a nine-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll recipient. He also has received MVC Scholar-Athlete and USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors on multiple occasions.

Jake is highly active with the team's community service projects and has participated in nearly twenty volunteer events, including the National Read Aloud Day at Whittier Primary School earlier this year. He organized a food drive for the Peoria South Side Mission in 2019 and spent over 40 hours working on a Habitat for Humanity project in 2018. Jake's leadership skills were fully displayed during this past cross country season when he served as team captain and led the team to its fifth-consecutive MVC championship.

The 2020 Kaboom! Awards is set to celebrate Bradley Athletics during the month of May, transitioning to a virtual presentation throughout the month. Each year on the final night of spring semester classes, the Bradley Department of Athletics gathers at Renaissance Coliseum for the annual Kaboom! Awards, an event modeled after the popular awards shows in the entertainment industry (Oscars, Grammys, ESPYs) and recognizes all of the graduating seniors, spotlights the team and individual achievements from throughout the year. Traditionally preceded by a red-carpet reception, the awards show is filled with video and graphic tributes, which will be presented this year through the Bradley Athletics website, BradleyBraves.com, and the department's social media accounts -- culminating with the announcement of the 67th Charles Orsborn Award May 29 and viewing of the Moments of the Year May 30.
