One of the most decorated runners in school history, senior Jake Hoffert of the Bradley cross country and track & field programs was honored as Varsity Club Most Outstanding Male Athlete for the 2019-20 academic year.

Hoffert has led the Bradley cross country program during one of the most successful runs in Missouri Valley Conference history as the senior has helped guide the Braves to five-straight team championships, tying the MVC record. On an individual level, Hoffert crossed the finish line in first place at the conference meet in 2019, becoming the first Brave in school history to win two individual crowns after also claiming the 2017 title. He won the 2019 championship in convincing fashion, finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up at the MVC meet. Rod Collins in 1965 is the only other Brave to claim the individual men's title.

The 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Hoffert finished his career by earning all-conference and NCAA All-Midwest Region accolades in all four of his cross country campaigns – the first Brave to accomplish either feat. He also collected All-MVC honors five times during his career on the track, including a runner-up finish at the 2020 MVC Indoor Championship in the 5,000m run.

In the classroom, Hoffert was also named the MVC Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2019, while collecting the league's Elite 17 Award at the indoor championship for owning the top GPA by an all-conference performer.

Hoffert's honor marks the fourth-straight season that a Bradley runner has received BU's Most Outstanding Male Athlete, following Daniel Gagne in 2016-17 and Michael Ward each of the last two seasons.

Hoffert was selected for the award over one representative from each of Bradley men's programs, beating out Dan Bolt (baseball), Darrell Brown (basketball), Alex Ciaramitaro (golf) and Gerit Wintermeyer (soccer).

The Varsity Club Most Outstanding Female Athlete is set to be announced on Thursday.
