PEORIA, Ill. - J.T. Kotowski finished off a Bradley throw-in sequence with a 3-yard bicycle kick goal in the 87th minute, leading the Braves (3-1-0) to a 1-0 win against Milwaukee (1-2-1) Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium.
Coming on the heels of similar 1-0 victories against Houston Baptist and DePaul, Bradley Soccer has won three consecutive games by the same 1-0 score for the first time in program history.
In a game that saw a limited number of shots on target - just three shots on goal by each team - Kotowski had the highest degree of difficulty of the attempts for his first goal since his freshman season in 2012. The play started with a Jacob Taylor throw from just inside the Bradley bench. Defender Andrew Brown flicked the ball to the far post, where Grant Bell attempted to slide in for the finish. The ball was deflected up and toward the center of the goal mouth, however, allowing Kotowski to flip backward for the finishing blow from inside the 6-yard box at 86:35.
Although Milwaukee ended with a 15-13 edge in shots, Bradley keeper Logan Ketterer needed just three routine saves to record his third straight shutout, running his scoreless streak between the pipes to 314 minutes, 40 seconds. Ketterer's scoreless streak is the ninth-longest in Bradley history and has allowed the Braves to win three consecutive games decided by 1-0 scores for the first time in the program's 29-year history.
Milwaukee goalkeeper Augustin Rey did not record a save on any of Bradley's three shots on goal as his Panthers defenders saved two balls off the line: Bell's header of a Joe Morales corner kick in the 23rd minute and again after Bell forced a Milwaukee turnover and pulled Rey off his line in the 77th minute.
Bradley, which swept its early-season 3-game, home stand for its first 3-game home winning streak since taking the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Shea Stadium, will hit the road for its next three games. The Braves will visit Utah Valley Friday night, then will take on UNLV Sunday afternoon in Orem, UT, before visiting Omaha Sept. 19.
The Braves will return to Shea Stadium for their annual homecoming match Sept. 25 against Valley rival Loyola Chicago. In addition to the homecoming festivities, the Sept. 25 match at Shea Stadium will feature a postgame fireworks show.
