PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Gabi Haack collected 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while sophomore Mahri Petree matched her for game-high honors with a career-best 22 points off the bench, but Loyola shot 51 percent as the Ramblers snapped a five-game win streak for Bradley Women's Basketball with a 71-66 victory over the Braves Friday at Renaissance Coliseum.
The loss snapped a season-best five-game win streak for Bradley (9-5 overall, 5-2 MVC) and also ended a seven-game win streak against in-state opponents for the Braves. Entering the night tied for second in the Valley standings, Bradley slipped into a tie for third.
In a game that featured eight ties and 12 lead changes, Bradley had its largest lead of the night (34-28) in the opening minute of the third quarter after Haack split a pair of free throws. The Braves were unable to put Loyola (5-3 overall, 3-1 MVC) away, however as the Ramblers hung around and briefly recaptured the lead in the closing stages of the period. Senior Nyjah White had a steal with four second left in the third that led to a Haack fastbreak layup as the teams went to the fourth quarter knotted at 47-47.
Loyola opened the fourth with an 11-3 run to build a 58-50 lead with seven minutes remaining, but the Braves would answer with a 10-3 spurt of their own. Junior Tatum Koenig got things started with a pair of free throws and junior Lasha Petree chased a Rambler free throw with a three-pointer. Loyola's Allison Day hit a jumper, before Mahri Petree knocked down her second three-pointer of the contest to make it a three-point deficit (61-58) midway through the frame.
A Lasha Petree layup with 3:25 would pull Bradley within one (61-60) and it was a 63-62 Loyola advantage after the teams traded baskets.
Back-to-back BU turnovers allowed Loyola to extend the lead back to four (66-62) with 1:12 on the clock. Another driving layup from Lasha Petree, who finished with 15 points, made it a one-possession game at 66-64 with 54.8 second left. The Ramblers made three of four free throws over the next four seconds and the Braves missed a trio of three-point attempts as the Loyola lead was back to five (69-64).
An offensive rebound and putback basket by Haack with 13.3 seconds left once again pulled Bradley within three (69-66) and the Braves had a chance after forcing a Loyola turnover with six seconds on the clock. Loyola came up with a steal of its own in the final seconds and a Sam Galanopoulos layup at the buzzer helped seal the 71-66 win for the Ramblers.
Loyola ended a four-game Bradley win streak in the series and the Ramblers also handed the Braves their first home loss against an in-state opponent since March 3, 2018 (14 games).
Haack finished 9-for-14 from the field and had team highs of seven rebounds and three steals to go with her 22 points. Mahri Petree tallied a career-best 22 points in 29 minutes off the bench, hitting 6-of-8 from the field and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Lasha Petree had 15 points and also had five boards, two assists, four blocks and a pair of steals as she moved into the top 25 in MVC history in career blocked shots.
Galanopoulos paced three Loyola players in double figures with 17 points off the bench. The Ramblers were 8-for-11 from the field (72.7 percent) in the fourth quarter and finished the contest shooting 51 percent overall.
Bradley and Loyola close out the season series Saturday with a 4 p.m. rematch at Renaissance Coliseum.
