Bradley Tennis Opens Season Against DePaul

PEORIA – Bradley Tennis is set to play its 2021 season opener Sunday at 1 P.M. against the DePaul Blue Demons at The Clubs at River City. The Braves are competing in their first competition since March 8, 2020 and their first home match since February 28, 2020.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING.
Bradley and DePaul last played March 4, 2017 at The Clubs at River City, where the Braves fell, 6-1. The Blue Demons lead the all-time series 12-1 with Bradley's lone win coming March 6, 1994. 

BATTLE-TESTED BRAVES
  • Sandra Maletin enters the season as the 7th-winningest Brave in singles competition in program history. Her .705 winning percentage is the second-best among Braves with at least 40 singles wins.
  • In the shortened 2019-20 campaign, Maletin recorded the fifth-most singles wins by a junior in program history by posting a 17-2 record.
  • Joining Maletin in double-digit singles wins were sophomores Nikki Perlwitz and Bozana Lojpur, recording 15 and 14 singles wins. respectively.
  • As a tandem, Perlwitz and Lojpur went 12-7 in doubles competition.
  • Bradley returns all seven of its players from its 2019-20 roster.
NEW TALENT
  • Freshman Maria Bezmenova will be available to make her season debut this weekend.
REVISITING SUCCESS 
  • The Braves will search for their third consecutive winning season, a would-be first since 1990-93 and only the third time in program history.
  • Bradley has posted a 23-13 (.639) combined record over the last two seasons.
THE COACH
  • Head Coach Matt Tyler is beginning his eighth season at the Tennis helm for the Braves.
  • Tyler begins this season as the second-winningest coach in program history with 68 career wins
  • This will be Tyler's second career match against DePaul with the Braves, the first coming March 3, 2017.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Due to Restore Illinois Phase 4 COVID mitigation protocols, fans will not be permitted to attend Bradley's indoor competitions at the Clubs at River City.
