2021 MVC Men's Soccer Championship | Semifinal #2
(1) #10 Missouri State 1, Bradley 0

SPRINGFIELD, MO – Missouri State fifth-year senior Josh Dowling scored the game's lone goal with a running header through the box in the 33rd minute and the 10th-ranked Bears (16-1-0) made the goal stand on the way to a 1-0 victory against sixth-seeded Bradley (5-12-1) in the second semifinal of the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship Friday night at Allison South Stadium.

Riding the nation's longest active winning streak, 14 games, the top-seeded Bears advance to Sunday's MVC Tournament championship game and a matchup against No. 4 seed Evansville, which upset No. 2 seed Loyola Chicago in a penalty kick shootout, 8-7, after playing the Ramblers to a 2-2 draw through two overtimes.

The Braves allowed only two shots on goal in the first half, but the Bears made the most of their limited opportunities when Aadne Bruseth centered from the right flank in the 33rd minute.  Dowling cut across the box on a diagonal run and was able to win the race to the centering pass, heading the ball past charging Bradley keeper Bryce Logan for what proved to be the deciding tally at 32:24.

Logan stopped all three of Missouri State's second-half shots on goal to keep the Braves in the game, but the young Bradley side could not break through against the veteran Bears lineup.  Michael Creek needed just one save to earn the shutout.

Suiting up a roster of 29 student-athletes that featured only five players who had appeared in a traditional fall game heading into this season, Bradley picked up steam down the stretch, posting a 3-3-1 record over its final seven games.  The closing run included a 2-1 win Tuesday at No. 3 seed SIU Edwardsville to complete a 3-game sweep against the Cougars and send the Braves to the semifinal round of the MVC Tournament for the 20th time.
