ST. LOUIS – Bradley freshman guard Caroline Waite (Ames, IA/Ames HS) is the first Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week of the 2021-22 season, according the announcement of the league's weekly awards Monday afternoon.

Making her official college debut against a Wright State squad that reached the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, Waite led the Braves (1-0) to their most-lopsided season-opening win in 35 years by scoring a game-high 23 points, while adding five assists and three rebounds in Bradley's 84-65 win Tuesday night at Renaissance Coliseum. Waite's 23 points equaled the second-best scoring effort by a Bradley freshman in her debut game. The 5-foot-4 guard, who made 9-of-13 (.692) field goal attempts, including 5-of-9 (.556) from 3-point range, even recorded Bradley's first blocked shot of the season.

Waite will have little time to celebrate her award as she and the Braves return to action Monday night by hosting Upper Iowa in a 6:30 p.m. non-conference tilt at Renaissance Coliseum. Monday's spotlight will shine on the Haack family as Bradley fifth-year senior Gabi Haack squares off against younger sister, Lydia, a sophomore guard for the Peacocks. Gabi Haack enters Monday's game in need of two free throws and 26 points to set the Bradley career records in both categories, as well as eight 3-pointers to become The Valley's all-time leader in triples.
