Seven Braves Earn Valley Scholar-Athlete Honors

Seven members of the Bradley cross country teams were honored for their work on and off the course this week, collecting Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honors.

Seniors Matt Aho, Alec Danner and Charlie Parrish and sophomores Rodrigo Alvarez Gonzalez and Billy Hauenstein earned the honor for the men's team, while sophomores Ashley Maguire and Wilma Nielsen collected the accolade for the BU women. Aho, Danner and Parrish all received the honor for the second time in their cross country career, while the four remaining Braves were first-time recipients.

Bradley seven selections to the two combined teams are the most in the Valley, while the Braves five men's honorees are also a league best.

To earn a spot on the conference's Scholar-Athlete Teams, a student-athlete must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.3 grade point average, while being a sophomore in both athletic and academic standing.

Parrish also received the conference's Elite 17 Award following the championship. The senior earned the accolade after owning the top GPA (3.95) by an all-conference student-athlete, finishing seventh on Friday. As a team, both the men's and women's programs placed second at the MVC Championship – marking the seventh-straight year both teams have finished in the top two.

The Braves are back in action in next weekend, competing at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Nov. 12. The top teams from nine states in the region will run with bids for the NCAA Championship on the line at Florida State.
