PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley Track & Field will make the short trip down I-74 to open the 2021 Indoor Track & Field season at Illinois State's John Coughlan Invite, which will be held Saturday in Normal, Ill., at ISU's Horton Field House.

MEET INFO
Eight newcomers will make their Bradley debuts, with the Braves sending a total of 17 individuals to compete in the one-day John Coughlan Invite.  Action at Illinois State's Horton Field House is slated to begin at noon with events concluding by 4:30 p.m.

EARLY START
Saturday marks just the second time in the last 12 years Bradley will kick off the indoor season in the month of December, with the other occurrence over that stretch during the 2020 indoor campaign.

SEASON OPENER
With the season opener focusing on sprints for the Braves, sophomore Kyra Koontz helps highlight things for the women's squad after setting the school record in the 60m dash and will compete in both the 60m dash and 60m hurdles Saturday.  On the men's side, junior Joey Simon is slated to make his return after sitting out the 2020-21 season.  Simon, who is entered in the 1,000m and mile, took eighth in the 800m and was a member of Bradley's fourth-place distance medley relay team at the 2020 MVC Indoor Championship.

SCHEDULE
The John Coughlan Invitational kicks off a 2022 indoor schedule that sees Bradley making three trips to the state of Iowa.

The Braves have a long break following this weekend's season opener, before heading to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Hawkeye Invitational (Jan. 15).  A pair of trips to Ames, Iowa, for the Cyclone Open (Jan. 22) and Iowa State Classic (Feb. 11 & 12) highlight a schedule that also features the UW Invitational (Jan. 28 & 29) in Seattle, Wash., along with Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational (Feb. 4 & 5) and Alex Wilson Invite (Feb. 19).

This year's MVC Indoor Championship will be held Feb. 27 & 28 in Chicago at the Track & Field Center at Gately Park, a 139,000-square foot facility that features a hydraulically-banked 200-meter track.

2021 INDOOR RECAP
For the first time in program history both the men's and women's teams eclipsed 50 points at the MVC Indoor Championship, with the women scoring a team-record 58 points.

The Braves swept the MVC distance medley relay titles in the same year for the first time last winter.  Individually, Julia Nielsen claimed the women's 800m title and Bradley also return all-conference performers in Max Dieterich (mile), Wilma Nielsen (800m, mile), Charlie Parrish (3,000m).

UP NEXT
The Braves have a break for finals and the holidays, returning to action at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, Saturday, Jan. 15.
