ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Freshman Mara Flaherty (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Norther) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Female Golfer of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Thursday afternoon after pacing Bradley Women's Golf at the season-opening First Coast Classic.
For the first time in her career, Flaherty was the team's top performer as she helped the Braves to a 12th-place team finish at the First Coast Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., earlier in the week. She fired a two-over 74 in the first round of the spring season at the par-72 Deerwood Country Club Monday and finished off a second-round 76 Tuesday after play was suspended midway through the second round. Flaherty closed out the 54-hole event with a third-round 85 to earn a share of 56th at 235.
The MVC Golfer of the Week honor is the first for Flaherty, who was one of two Braves to play in all seven tournaments in 2019-20.
Flaherty and the Braves return to action March 13 & 14, traveling to Carbondale, Ill., for a duel with Valley rival Southern Illinois.
