Bradley Track Sweeps DMR Titles in Opening Day of MVC Championship

The Bradley track and field teams opened action at the 2021 MVC Indoor Championship in style, claiming a pair of titles in the distance medley relay.

The men got things started for Bradley as the team of senior Alec Hartman, junior Miguel Agyei and freshmen Zach Albrecht and Max Dieterich claimed the program's fourth title in the distance medley relay in the last seven seasons and the first since 2018. The Braves clocked a time of 9:59.54 for the fourth-fastest mark in school history, while defeating second-place Indiana State by nearly three seconds for the crown.

The women then followed their counterpart's lead with their second DMR championship in the last three seasons. The team of junior McKenzie Altmayer and freshmen Reina McMillan, Tiana LoStracco and Julia Nielsen ran a time of 11:50.80 to cross the line in first place and finish nearly 15 seconds ahead of Northern Iowa in second. The team's time is also the third-fastest in school history and the quickest in seven years.

Bradley also featured four individuals who scored on the opening day in the 5,000m run. Junior Matt Aho led the BU men and placed sixth in the event in 15:52.46, while freshman Billy Hauenstein crossed the finish line in seventh in his MVC Championship debut in 15:52.91.

Again, the Bradley women matched the performance of the men as junior Emma Ehrhardt finished sixth in 17:52.16 and sophomore Lily Strauss was seventh in 17:58.03.

Finally, in the women's 200m prelims, freshman T'ya Suber led the Braves with a time of 25.81 – tied for the second-best mark in program history.

After one day of action, both the Bradley men and women are fifth with 15 points apiece in the team standings.

Day two of the three-day meet is set for Saturday as the action begins at Northern Iowa at noon.
