Tennis Puts Win Streak on the line against EIU

PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley Tennis puts its three-match winning streak on the line against Eastern Illinois in a matinee matchup Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock.  The match will be played outside at the David Markin Tennis Courts.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
  • The Braves and Panthers have meet 31 times dating back to 1980, with Eastern Illinois taking 17 of those matchups. 
  • The 2020 season was absent of a matchup between the two for the first time since 2016.
  • Bradley won the last matchup with EIU in 2019 by a score of 5-2 at The Clubs at River City.
 
BARBERY AND MALETIN MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY
  • In Tuesday's match against Western Illinois, the No. 1 Doubles tandem of Natalia Barbery/Sandra Maletin won its 43rd match as a duo, the most in Bradley Tennis history
  • They were the first doubles match complete against Western Illinois, aiding in Bradley's third straight doubles point victory.
  • The previous mark of 42 wins by a doubles pairing initially was set by Megan McGinnis from 1990-94 and was matched by Nicole Miller and Emily Regenold from 2007-10..

LEADERS ON THE COURT
  • Maletin now has won six straight matches at No. 1 Singles without dropping a set in any of the six wins.
  • In the Braves' last contest against Western Illinois, Maletin steamrolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
  • Alongside Maletin, Bozana Lojpur is 5-2 on the season, playing every match at No. 2 Singles.
 
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS
  • Bradley has swept its last two matches against Chicago State and Western Illinois, 7-0.
  • This is the first time the Braves have swept back-to-back dual matches since Feb. 21, 2015 in a doubleheader against Western Illinois and Green Bay at The Clubs at River City. 
  • It is the ninth time in program history Bradley has swept back-to-back dual matches and the second time under Head Coach Matt Tyler.
 
HEATING UP 
  • The weather is heating up outside, and the Braves are on a hot streak.
  • The current three-match winning streak is the longest for Bradley since the Braves won four-straight last season from Feb. 16 - Feb. 28.
 
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Due to Restore Illinois Phase 4 COVID mitigation protocols and Bradley Athletics policy, fans will not be permitted to attend Bradley's indoor competitions at The Clubs at River City and will not be permitted inside the gate for outdoor competitions at the David Markin Courts at this time.
