PEORIA, IL – In its first game after setting the program record for runs (16) and margin of victory (15) in a Missouri Valley Conference game, Bradley Softball could not get the timely hit it needed, as the Braves (9-7, 2-1 MVC) saw their 7-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-0 loss to Valparaiso (5-11, 1-2 MVC) Sunday afternoon at Petersen Hotels Field.

Bradley swept a league-opening doubleheader Saturday against Valpo, rallying for a 5-3 win before cruising to a 16-1 victory in the night cap, but the Braves were unable to string together enough hits Sunday to keep its winning streak going.  Bradley stranded eight runners through the first three innings and left 10 runners on base for the game.

Caitlyn Kowalski relieved Valpo starter Easton Seib with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second and got out of the jam by getting C Avry Blume to fly out to center field.  Kowalski (4-5) finished the game, allowing four hits and striking out three in 5.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Raegan Branon (0-2) took the loss for the Braves by allowing three runs on five hits in her 6+ innings.

After Branon retired the first six Valparaiso hitters of the day, the Brown and Gold started the third inning with back-to-back infield singles.  The second was a well-placed bunt that put runners at the corners with no outs.  After a ground out to third that could not score the runner from third, Taylor Herschbach drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a sharp single to left field.  Addi Burke followed with a RBI ground out for a 2-0 lead.

Bradley returns to action next weekend, visiting Southern Illinois for a 3-game set at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale.  The series will begin with a noon doubleheader Saturday.
