Tennis' Winning Streak Ends Against UMKC

PEORIA, Ill – Bradley Tennis was unable to keep their hot streak going, as the Braves fell to Kansas City by a score of 4-1 at The David Markin Tennis Courts Sunday.
 
UMKC jumped on the Braves early, downing the Number 1 Doubles tandem of Victoria Sánchez-Bronzetti/Sandra Maletin by a score of 6-1. The pair was in just their third match together. 
 
The first-time duo of Maria Bezmenova/Nina Marjanovic proved effective, as they won 6-3 at Number 2 Doubles.
 
The doubles point was decided at Number 3, where Bozana Lojpur/Nikki Perlwitz went down 5-2 in the set and 4-2 in the tiebreaker, before eventually bring it back to 5-5 in the tiebreaker. They fell by a score of 7-6(5) and UMKC took the doubles point.
 
The Roos carried their momentum into singles play, taking victories at Numbers 3 and 5 Singles and opening up a 3-0 match lead on the Braves.
 
However, Kansas City was unable to slow down Maletin. She was victorious for the eighth singles match in a row despite running into some trouble early, winning in comeback fashion 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
 
The Roos clinched the victory after a 6-3, 6-4 victory at Number 6 Singles. 
 
The Braves will open conference play next weekend in the I-74 rivalry match against Illinois State Saturday, March 27th at 11 A.M. Weather permitting, the match will be played outdoors at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
 
Due to Restore Illinois Phase 4 COVID mitigation protocols and Bradley Athletics policy, fans will not be permitted to attend Bradley's indoor competitions at The Clubs at River City and will not be permitted inside the gate for outdoor competitions at the David Markin Courts at this time. Fans are permitted outside the fence at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
