Game Recap: Softball |
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Sophomores Lucy Mead and Camryn Monteer both had multi-hit games in game one of a doubleheader at Louisville, but the Cardinals held the Braves to a combined five hits in the two games as Bradley Softball fell 9-1 and 9-0 Friday afternoon on the opening day of the Cardinal Classic.

Mead led off the day for Bradley (2-4 overall) with a single and went 2-for-3 while driving in the only BU run in the twinbill in the opener.  Monteer was 2-for-2 in the day's first game and scored the only run for the Braves.

Louisville (5-6 overall) pushed six runs across on just three hits in the bottom of the first inning of the opening contest to take an early lead.

Bradley was able to get run back in the top of the second with Monteer getting things started with a one-out single.  Freshman Jordy van der Werf drew a walk and Monteer would eventually score on a Mead single through the left side of the infield to cut the Cardinals' lead to 6-1.

Louisville tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second and held Bradley to just one hit after the second inning as the Cardinals went on to take the first game 9-1.

In the nightcap, four Bradley errors led to eight unearned runs and Louisville pitchers Gabby Holloway and Jennifer Leonhardt combined for a one-hit shutout as the Cardinals swept the doubleheader with a 9-0 victory.

Junior Vicki Zaluske had the only hit of the game for the Braves with a two-out double in the top of the third, but Bradley couldn't get her home.

After taking 1-0 lead through one inning of play, Louisville broke things open with a five-run second highlighted by a three-run homer by Taylor Roby.

Bradley pitchers Morgan Radford and Taise Thompson limited Louisville to just three hits, but the errors proved costly as Louisville took the second game 9-0.

The Braves close out play at the Cardinal Classic Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. (CST) game against Miami (Ohio).
