ST. LOUIS – For the first time this season, Bradley Softball is represented among the Missouri Valley Conference weekly awards as freshman pitcher Camryn Schaller (Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) is the MVC Newcomer of the Week, according to the weekly announcement of awards from the league office Monday.

In two appearances in the circle during the week, Schaller was 1-1 with a 0.75 ERA, helping the Braves (15-13) to a 2-2 record for the week.  After suffering a tough-luck luck out of the bullpen in Bradley's extra-innings setback Monday at Loyola Chicago, Schaller (4-1) bounced back by earning the complete-game victory in Saturday's 3-1 win against Indiana State to complete the doubleheader sweep against the Sycamores.

Facing an Indiana State lineup that had averaged 10.0 runs per game in its previous six Valley games, Schaller improved to 3-0 as a starter by limiting the Sycamores to one run on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts Saturday.  For the season, Schaller is 4-1 with a 1.95 ERA in her staff-leading 15 pitching appearances.

The Braves begin the week tied with the Sycamores for fifth in the MVC standings, both owning 8-7 league records.  Bradley faces a tough, 6-game stretch by visiting league-leading Illinois State for a Wednesday doubleheader, followed by a 3-game weekend series at second-place UNI and next Tuesday's series finale against the rival Redbirds at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.
