Game Recap: Softball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
NORMAL, Ill. – Mack Leonard led host Illinois State to a doubleheader sweep against Bradley Thursday evening at Marian Kneer Stadium, swatting two home runs in the opener and shutting the Braves out from the circle in the nightcap.  The I-74 rivals will complete their 3-game Valley series Tuesday when Illinois State visits the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex for a 3 p.m. single game.

Game 1 Recap | Illinois State 8, Bradley 0
Leonard drove in five runs on a pair of home runs and Morgan Day (15-4) held the Braves to one hit in the abbreviated, 6-inning shutout.  Leonard gave the host Redbirds all the offense they would need by launching a 3-run home run in the second inning.

Illinois State belted four home runs in the game, getting solo shots from Andrea Coursey in the third and Spenser Strandgard in the fifth.

Taise Thompson's 2-out single was the only breakthrough against Day, who walked two and struck out 10.

Game 2 Recap | Illinois State 7, Bradley 0
Leonard followed up her offensive heroics in the first game by pitching the Redbirds to a 7-0 win in the nightcap Thursday.  Leonard blanked the Braves on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

The Braves did not go down without chances, though, stranding eight runners through the first five innings and nine in the game.  Bradley got its leadoff hitter on base in four of the first five innings, but left the bases loaded in both the first and third innings and also stranded a runner in scoring position in the seventh.

Stacia Seeton paced Bradley's offensive effort in game 2, going 3-for-3 with a walk in her four plate appearances.  Samanatha Smith had Bradley's fourth hit with a leadoff single in the second inning.
