Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Josh Schwam, Athletics Communications Student Assistant
Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Tennis dazzled under the lights Tuesday night, defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies 4-1 at the David Markin Tennis Courts. The victory improves Bradley's non-conference record to 6-4 on the season.

The Huskies jumped out in front early, taking leads on all three doubles courts. A win at No. 3 Doubles for Bozana Lojpur/Nikki Perlwitz tied the score at 1-1 after the Huskies won at No. 2 Doubles.

The point came down to reigning Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week Sandra Maletin/Victoria Sánchez-Bronzetti. The duo fell 7-6(7) in a set that lasted just under an hour.

Despite the setback in doubles, the lights were not too bright for the Braves in singles. Bradley took the first set in singles Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Perlwitz was first to clinch a victory, winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 Singles. Maria Bezmenova followed Perlwitz in straight sets winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 Singles. The win pushed Bradley in front 2-1 and improved Bezmenova to 6-5 in her first dual match season.

Sánchez-Bronzetti maintained her strong form at No. 3 Singles. Her 6-3, 6-2 win was the third singles match to finish and the third victory for the Braves. She is 5-2 in her last seven singles matches, all at the No. 3 spot.

Natalia Barbery clinched the victory for the Braves and picked up her first win since returning to the lineup with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 Singles. Bradley's four points all came from the bottom four positions in the singles order.

The Braves will be back in action this weekend for back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference matchups, beginning Saturday with Drake and finishing on Sunday with UNI, both at 11 a.m. Both matches will have live stats provided on BradleyBraves.com and updates on Twitter @BradleyUTennis.

Due to Restore Illinois Phase 4 COVID mitigation protocols and Bradley Athletics policy, fans will not be permitted to attend Bradley's indoor competitions at The Clubs at River City and will not be permitted inside the gate for outdoor competitions at the David Markin Courts at this time. Fans are permitted outside the fence at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
