Wilma Nielsen Set to Compete for Sweden National Team

Wilma Nielsen of the Bradley cross country and track & field program is trading in her BU Red & White to represent the Blue and Yellow for the Sweden National Team this weekend.
 
Nielsen will represent Sweden at the Finnkampen – an annual track competition between countries Sweden and Finland. The competition is one of the most prestigious events between the two rivals that first began in 1925. The women's championship debuted in 1953 and has been held every year since 1964.
 
Nielsen is set to compete in the both the 800m and 1,500m for Team Sweden. The Missouri Valley Conference record holder in the 800m, Nielsen set a PR time in 2:02.29 at the 2021 European U23 Championship to earn the bronze medal. She also owns the school record in the 1,500m with a mark of 4:22.56.
 
During her rookie season with the Braves in 2021, Nielsen earned all-conference accolades on four occasions, while receiving honorable-mention All-America honors in the 800m. She became the third Bradley runner in program history to qualify for the championship rounds at the NCAA Championship and just the first freshman to advance.
 
Nielsen is set to run the 800m on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. CT with the 1,500m beginning at 6:40 a.m. CT on Sunday.
