PEORIA, IL – Senior guard Chloe Rice matched her career-highs with 11 points and six rebounds and senior guard Aannah Interrante chipped in a season-best eight points off the bench, but it was not enough to help Bradley overcome a cold first quarter as visiting Loyola Chicago (10-6, 2-3 MVC) held on for a 48-41 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball win against the Braves (3-10, 0-4 MVC) Thursday night at Renaissance Coliseum.

Bradley did not score in the first 6-minutes, 4-seconds of the game and shot just 2-for-15 (.133) from the field during the opening period.  Although the Braves outscored Loyola Chicago in both the second (14-12) and fourth (10-9) quarters and played the Ramblers even in the third (13-13), they were never able to overcome the cold start.

Maya Chandler, who sank 3-of-4 3-point field goal attempts in the first quarter, scored a game-high 19 points and Bre Hampton-Bey added 10 to complete the game's double-digit scoring.  Bradley junior forward Sierra Morrow snared a game-high seven rebounds for the Braves

Loyola Chicago led 14-4 after the first quarter and built its advantage to as much as 15, 39-24, following a Chandler bucket with 4:52 left in the third quarter. Neither team scored again until Rice buried a 3-pointer with 1:38 left, starting a 7-0 Bradley run to close the quarter.  Morrow scored twice in the final 36 seconds of the period to pull the Braves within 39-31.

Interrante made it a 10-0 run by starting the fourth quarter with her second 3-pointer of the game, narrowing the gap to 39-34, but Loyola answered with a 5-0 spurt and the Braves were unable to pull closer than five points the rest of the way.  Trailing 44-39 after Rice split a pair of free throws with 3:23 left to play, Bradley kept getting defensive stops, but the Braves missed their next six field goal attempts.  The Ramblers did not make a field goal the final 7-minutes, 33-seconds, but Hampton-Bey's two free throws with 16 seconds remaining gave the visitors enough breathing room, 46-39, to close out the win.

Although Bradley's defensive effort limited Loyola to 35.4 percent (17-48) shooting from the field, while forcing 16 turnovers, the Braves managed to make just 16-of-60 (.267) of their field goal attempts.  The 89 combined points are the fewest in Renaissance Coliseum's 11-year history, one fewer than the 90 scored in a 52-38 win against Illinois State Feb. 21, 2016,

Already without all-time scoring leader Gabi Haack due to her season-ending knee injury suffered Jan. 1 at Illinois State, the Braves played Thursday without the team's only other double-digit scorer, freshman guard Caroline Waite, as well as freshman forward Abbie Draper, due to COVID protocols.  Their availability for Saturday's 2 p.m. home game against Valparaiso is to be determined.
