PEORIA, IL – Bradley senior guard Tatum Koenig matched her career highs with 23 points and five 3-point field goals, but visiting Valparaiso (5-12, 3-3 MVC) drained 13 3-pointers and forced the host Braves (3-11, 0-5 MVC) into 23 turnovers on the way to a 68-61 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum.
Bradley took its first lead of the game, 36-35, when Sierra Morrow buried a 3-point field goal from the right corner with 7:16 left in the third period, but the Beacons answered with a Caitlin Morrison 3-pointer on their ensuing possession to start an 18-5 scoring surge through the end of the period.

Trailing by as many as 14 points, 57-43 with 8:22 left to play, Bradley roared back and pulled to within 61-59 on an Abbie Draper driving layup with 1:32 remaining, but the Beacons scored the next seven points to close out the win.

Morrison led four Valparaiso players in double figures with 15 points and Leah Earnest posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Shay Frederick and Grace White both scored 12 points for the Beacons.

Freshman guard Caroline Waite, who missed Thursday's game against Loyola Chicago due to COVID protocols, returned to action with 11 points Saturday.  Morrow completed the double-digit scoring efforts with 10 points and led the Braves with seven rebounds and two steals.

While Bradley was 11-for-30 (.367) from 3-point range for its best single-game total since draining 13 triples in the season-opening win against Wright State, Valparaiso countered by sinking 13-of-32 (.406) attempts from beyond the arc.  The Beacons also turned their minus-8 turnover margin (15-23) into a 24-13 advantage in points off turnovers.

Bradley, which played a program-record eight road games in a nine-game stretch from Nov. 22-Jan. 9, will return to  the road for Valley games Thursday at Missouri State (7 p.m.) and Saturday at Southern Illinois (2 p.m.).  The Braves then will be home for six of their next eight games, beginning Jan. 27 (6:30 p.m.) against Drake.
