Bradley Cross Country Earns Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Bradley men's and women's cross country teams were both recognized among the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams, while freshman Nicola Jansen earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, according to a recent announcement by the USTFCCCA.

The 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, Jansen earned All-MVC recognition in addition to capturing NCAA All-Midwest Region honors after a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional this fall. She finished third individually at the MVC Championship to help the Braves to a second-place team finish. Her effort at the NCAA Regional was the best finish by a Bradley rookie and she owned the top time by a freshman at the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional. A physical therapy major, Jansen owns a 3.53 cumulative grade point average.

Jansen was one of 114 individuals nationally and one of two from the Missouri Valley Conference to land on the list of NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country USTFCCA All-Academic recipients. In order to qualify for All-Academic honors, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.25 and finish in the top 25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional meet.

The Bradley men's team ranked 35th nationally with a team grade point average of 3.54, which was good for second in the MVC, while the women's squad owns a 3.53 team GPA. Both teams finished second at the 2021 MVC Championship back in October.

Bradley boasted a league-high seven MVC Scholar-Athlete picks following the 2021 campaign, highlighted by a league-best five selections by the men's team. Senior Charlie Parrish, who was named the MVC's Elite 17 Award winner, highlighted the group that included fellow seniors Matt Aho and Alec Danner along with sophomores Rodrigo Alvarez Gonzalez and Billy Hauenstein for the men's squad. The Bradley women's team had two MVC Scholar-Athlete picks in sophomores Ashley Maguire and Wilma Nielsen.
