SEATTLE, Wash. – Junior George Watson challenged the school record in the men's 5,000 meters and sophomore Sophia McDonnell posted the best women's 5,000-meter time in the MVC since 2020 to highlight day one action at the UW Invitational for Bradley Track & Field Friday.

Watson finished fourth in the men's 5,000 meters Friday night in a time of 14:13.36, nearly topping the school record of 14:11.14 held by Chase Coffey (2016).  Watson's time ranks second in Bradley history and beat the top performance in the Missouri Valley Conference entering the weekend by over 45 seconds.

McDonnell finished sixth in the women's 5,000 meter, with her time of 16:43.69 ranking fifth in school history.  McDonnell's time, which was 90 seconds better than the season-best effort in the MVC heading into the weekend, was the top performance by a Brave since 2016.

In addition to McDonnell's effort, junior Tyler Schwartz clocked a career-best time of 17:07.96 to take 12th in the women's 5,000.  Schwartz beat her previous personal best by over 15 seconds and posted the eighth-best time in Bradley history.

The UW Invitational continues Saturday afternoon with the Braves competing in the women's 400, 800 and 3,000 meters in addition to the men's mile.
