Nicola Jansen Named Bradley Busey Bank Scholar-Athlete of the Week

PEORIA, Ill. – Sophomore Nicola Jansen of the women's cross country team has been named this week's Bradley Busey Bank Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Thursday after leading the Braves at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational.

In her first race of the 2022 season, the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year picked up where she left off one season ago. In a field that included four top-10 schools in the country and a total of 10 teams receiving votes in the latest national poll, Jansen placed 19th overall of 186 runners. She clocked a 5K time of 16:30.8 to set the program's record – topping the previous standard of 16:54.20 set in 2015 – as Bradley placed 10th overall as a team and ahead of two schools receiving votes in the most recent poll.

Majoring in nutrition and dietetics, Jansen owns a 3.58 grade point average.

Each week, a student-athlete is selected as the Bradley Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Jansen and the Braves return to action on Friday, Oct. 14, hosting the Bradley Pink Classic at Newman Golf Course.
