Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Bobby Parker, Sr. Associate AD for Communications and Event & Facility Operations
PEORIA, IL – Bradley senior guard Tatum Koenig extended her career-best streak of double-digit scoring efforts to double digits by leading the Braves (4-19, 1-13 MVC) with a team-high 13 points, but Southern Illinois countered with a 3-headed combination of graduate students to earn a 74-46 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball victory Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum.

SIU's trio of graduate students – forward Gabby Walker (19 points), forward Abby Brockmeyer (14) and guard Makenzie Silver (10) – combined for 43 points for the Salukis.  Brockmeyer added a game-high 15 rebounds, while Silvey dished out a game-high four assists.  Pairing Friday's win at Bradley with Missouri State's win at Illinois State, Southern Illinois leapfrogged the Redbirds into the top spot in the MVC standings.

Junior forward Sierra Morrow made all five of her field goal attempts and finished with 11 points for the Braves.  Morrow also shared team-high honors with four rebounds and she led all players with three blocked shots.

The Braves struggled to get on track offensively from the beginning and never found their shooting rhythm the entire game.  The trio of Koenig (0-8), freshman guard Caroline Waite (0-7) and senior guard Chloe Rice (0-4) combined to go 0-for-19 from 3-point range as the Braves finished just 2-for-24 (.083) from beyond the arc.  Southern Illinois countered with a 5-for-11 (.455) effort from 3-point territory, but focused its effort down low, outscoring the Braves 36-26 in the paint and 11-6 from the free throw line.

Morrow scored the game's first points on a putback basket, but Southern Illinois scored the next seven points and never looked back.  Morrow's corner 3-pointer pulled the Braves to within 10-9, but the Salukis closed the first quarter on a 7-2 surge, then scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take control.

Bradley will return to action with a 2 p.m. clash Sunday against Missouri State at Renaissance Coliseum.  Sophomore forward Tete Danso will be honored with a Nursing program "White Coat" ceremony pregame (approximately 1:45).  Sunday's game also will serve as Bradley's annual Play4Kay game in recognition of the ongoing fight against breast cancer.  Fans may participate in the Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge by sponsoring Bradley's month-long effort from the free throw line:  https://pledgeit.org/bradley-play4kay-2022.
