Game Recap: Softball |
AUBURN, Ala. – Bradley Softball picked up its fifth victory in its last six contests, with the Braves hitting a pair of first-inning homers and sophomore Raegan Branon holding Syracuse to just four hits as BU posted a 6-2 victory over the Orange Friday at the Plainsman Invite.

Branon went the distance for her second straight start, striking out four and walking just one in the four-hit, complete game effort to improve her record to 2-1 on the year

Bradley (6-5 overall) hit a pair of homers during a five-run bottom of the first.  Senior Camryn Monteer led things off for the Braves with a single and Bradley had a 2-0 lead following a two-run homer by Grace French.  A Jordy van der Werf single and Samantha Smith double put two runners on before freshman Katie Pederson ripped a three-run homer to left as the Braves built a 5-0 lead.

Branon worked around a one-out walk for a scoreless first and Syracuse was unable to take advantage of a leadoff single in the second.

Syracuse (8-3 overall) finally got to Branon in the fourth, capitalizing on a Bradley error to score a pair of runs.  Carli Campbell reached on an error to leadoff the inning and the Orange had a runner at second with two outs.  Angel Jasso drove in the first run of the frame with a RBI single and Syracuse cut the Bradley lead to 5-2 on a RBI double from Neli Casares-Maher.

Branon sat Syracuse down in order in the fifth and kept the Orange off the board again in the sixth despite a one-out double.

The Braves were able to add an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth.  Smith led off the frame with a single and eventually scored on a Syracuse error to give Bradley a 6-2 edge.

Branon came back out for the top of the seventh, getting a pair of flyouts and a foul out to close out the victory, retiring 10 of the final 11 batters she faced.

Bradley continues action at the Plainsman Invite Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. contest against Louisiana-Monroe.
