Game Recap: Softball |
AUBURN, Ala. – Bradley Softball roughed up Delaware State for 13 hits and 12 runs, using a nine-run fourth to power by the Hornets 12-3 in five innings Sunday to wrap up action at the Plainsman Invite.

Freshman Abbott Badgley drove in three and hit her first career home run to help highlight the day for the Braves, who improved to 7-7 on the year with the victory.  Hitting sixth in the lineup, Badgley teamed with senior Samantha Smith and freshman Katie Pederson in the middle of Bradley's lineup with the group a combined 7-for-10 with five runs, eight RBI, a pair of doubles and a home run.

Felicity Munoz led off the contest with a walk and scored on a one-out single by Jaelyn Baker.  Delaware State (0-8 overall) loaded the bases with only one out later in the inning, but the Braves got out of the jam with an out at the plate on a fielder's choice and a groundout.

Bradley knotted the score at 1-1 when Badgley hit her first career home run with a solo shot in the bottom of the second.

Delaware State jumped back in front with a run in the top of the third.  The Hornets had two on with one out after a single and hit batter for Dallas Speicher-Ramirez, who put Delaware State on top with a RBI single to right center as Delaware State led 2-1.

The Braves broke the game open in the fourth, sending 14 to the plate during a nine-run inning.  Smith and Pederson started the inning with back-to-back singles.  Badgley followed a pitching change with a two-run single to right and would later score on a passed ball to give the Braves a 4-2 lead.  Olivia Bradley added a RBI single and the lead was 7-2 following a two-run single to center by Grace French.  Smith collected her second hit of the inning with a RBI double to center and sophomore Addison Pettit later made it a 10-2 advantage with a two-run single up the middle.

Delaware State kept the game alive with a two-out run in the top of the fifth, cutting the Bradley lead to 10-3.  The Braves answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, however, to close out the 12-3, five-inning victory.  Bradley loaded the bases on an Olivia Bradley single and walks by French and Jordy van der Werf for freshman Allie Paregien, who ripped a pinch-hit, two-run double to seal the victory

Sophomore Camryn Schaller earned the victory out of the bullpen for the Braves, evening her record at 2-2.  She scattered three hits and struck out three in 4.2 innings of work.

Bradley heads to Columbia, Mo., next weekend for the Mizzou Classic, opening the tournament Friday with a 1 p.m. contest against NCAA Division I newcomer St. Thomas.
