Women’s Golf Ties For Eighth At Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Senior Megan Welch finished two shots out of the top 20 in a tie for 28^th individually and Bradley Women's Golf tied for eighth in the 18-team field at the Rio Verde Invitational in the spring opener for the Braves.

Welch matched her second-round score with a final round 77 during Sunday's action at the par-72 Rio Verde Country Club's White Wing Course. She was two shots out of the top 20 and seven back of the top 10 in the field in a tie for 28^th at 228.

Bradley shot 310 as a team on the final day of play, closing the tournament tied with former Missouri Valley Conference rival Wichita State at 924 for eighth.

Kennesaw State had two of the top three individuals in the field, claiming the team championship at 865. Xavier was second 877 with Cal Baptist finishing third at 893. MVC rivals Illinois State (4^th – 898) and Missouri State (5^th – 903) rounded out the top five. South Dakota followed in sixth at 904 and Central Michigan was 11 shots better than the Braves in seventh (913). Bradley and Wichita State had a nine-shot edge on Ball State and Eastern Michigan, with both teams tying for 10^th overall at 933.

Junior Mara Flaherty finished one shot back of Welch in a tie for 30^th at 229, carding a final round 80.

Freshman Maria Perakis turned in a 78 to match her score from each of her first two rounds of the Rio Verde Invite to tie for 47^th overall at 234. Fellow freshman Kathryn McNease also had a 78 on the final day of play, finishing four back of Perakis at 238 in a tie for 65^th. Senior Sarah Nacos rounded out the scoring for the Braves with her low round of the tournament at five-over 77 Sunday to tie Perakis for 65^th (238).

Bradley returns to action March 14 & 15 in Boulder City, Nev., at the Jackrabbit Invitational.
