Game Recap: Softball |
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Senior Grace French threw the first no hitter for Bradley Softball since 2007, helping highlight the final day of the Mizzou Classic for the Braves, who posted a 9-0 victory against St. Thomas and fell to #15 Missouri 8-0 Sunday.

In game one of the day, French struck out five and walked two in the five-inning, no-hitter that was the first for Bradley (10-9 overall) dating back to Ashley Birdsong against Belmont on March 11, 2007.

The Braves collected 13 hits and scored nine runs in support of French, who improved 2-4 on the season with the victory.  Freshman Katie Pederson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and fellow frosh Abbott Badgley hit her third home run in the last five games in support of French.

Badgley got the Braves on the scoreboard in the top of the first with a two-run homer and Bradley added four more runs in the top of the second.  Abigail Tyler led off the frame with a double and the bases were loaded after an Allie Paregien double and Camryn Monteer walk.  Tyler scored on a wild pitch and senior Samantha Smith drove in a pair with a RBI double to right center.  Pederson made it a 6-0 Bradley lead with a RBI double to left center.

French worked around a one-out walk in the second and a two-out walk in the fourth to keep St. Thomas (2-13 overall) off the scoreboard.

Pederson had the big hit during a three-run fourth with a two-out, three-run homer that pushed the advantage to 9-0.

Bradley threatened again in the fifth, but left a pair on base and French retired St. Thomas in order in the bottom half of the fifth to close out the no hitter.

In the day's second contest, Mizzou's Laurin Krings struck out 12 and tossed a perfect game against the Braves.

Missouri (16-4 overall) got all the runs it would need in the first thanks to a pair of Bradley errors that allowed Brooke Wilmes to score after she led off the bottom of the first with a single.  The Tigers went on to add seven more runs as Missouri topped the Braves 8-0 in six innings.  Krings struck out 12 of the 18 Bradley hitters she face, upping her record to 7-2 on the year.

Bradley returns to action next weekend with the Braves heading back to Nashville, Tenn., for the Bruin Classic.  BU will open the final weekend of non-conference play Friday with a 2:45 p.m. game against North Alabama.
