KIRKWOOD, Mo. – Freshman Maria Perakis was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and senior Megan Welch was named an All-MVC selection as the duo helped Bradley Women's Golf to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 MVC Championship Tuesday at par-71 Greenbriar Hills Country Club.

The Braves climbed two spots in the standings on the final day of play, turning in their best round of the tournament with a 312 to capture fourth in the final standings at 945.  Bradley, which started the day in sixth, finished 10 shots back of third-place Drake (935) and four shots ahead of fifth-place Evansville (949) in the 10-team field.  Illinois State claimed the team title by one stroke at 911, edging out Missouri State (912) for top team honors.

Welch was voted an All-MVC pick after she tied for eighth at the Valley Championship to collect her team-best fourth top-10 showing of the year.  She had the low round of the day for the Braves and matched Bradley's low round of the tournament with a four-over 75 Tuesday to finish at 16-over 229.

Welch was one shot out of a four-way tie for fourth and four shots back of individual medalist Kristen Giles of Drake, who finished at 12-over 225.  Welch closed the 2021-22 season with a team-best 76.24 stroke average, which tied for the 15th-best stroke average in program history.

Freshman Kathryn McNease finished one shot out of the top 20 at 239 in a tie for 21st overall, closing out action with a final-round 79.

Perakis was tabbed the MVC Newcomer of the Year, finishing the season with the lowest stroke average among Valley freshman at 76.52.  Her average, which is 17th among Bradley season marks, is the third lowest average by a BU freshman and Perakis is now the fourth Bradley freshman to take home MVC Newcomer of the Year honors.  The last Brave to earn the honor was Taylor Ledwein in 2016-17.  Perakis closed out play with an 82 Tuesday to earn a share of 26th at 241.

Junior Mara Flaherty matched Perakis' final round score of 82 Tuesday to finish at 244 in a tie for 31st.  Senior Sarah Nacos jumped up nine spots in the standings on the final day, firing a five-over 76 as she tied for 33rd overall at 245 to round out the scoring for the Braves.
