Game Recap: Softball |
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Freshman Abbott Badgley had her fifth multi-hit game in the last seven outings and Camryn Monteer also had multiple hits for Bradley Softball, but Missouri State's Steffany Dickerson struck out 10 in a complete game shutout as the Bears took the rubber match of the three-game series by the score of 6-0 Sunday afternoon at Killian Stadium.

Badgley, who extended her hit streak to a season-best eight games, went 2-for-3 at the plate and came out of the bullpen to pitch one and two-thirds inning of scoreless relief in the setback.  Monteer has now reached base safely in a career-best 17 consecutive games after going 2-for-4 with a stolen base to highlight the day for Bradley (24-23 overall, 12-12 MVC)

The Braves put the leadoff person on in each of the first three innings, but Bradley stranded five runners in the first three frames and seven for the day.  In the second inning, Badgley collected her fourth hit of the series with a leadoff single and senior Keeler van Breusegen followed with a double as Bradley had two in scoring position.  Dickerson struck out the next three batters she faced to get out of the jam, however.

Dickerson opened the bottom of the second with a walk and Missouri State loaded the bases with back-to-back singles.  Kelsie Lewis drove in the first run of the game with a RBI infield single to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.  With the bases loaded and no outs, Lucy Mead made a diving catch in left and was able to double off the runner at second base.  The runner at third was called out on the play for leaving early as Bradley got out of the jam with a triple play.

A Monteer single and Mead walk to open the top of the third once again gave Bradley two base runners to start an inning.  A pair of popouts sandwiched around a strikeout ended the inning, however.

Missouri State (24-16 overall, 17-5 MVC) tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third.  A Daphne Plummer walk and Madison Hunsaker double to start the inning led to the first run of the inning.  A two-run homer off the bat of Olivia Krehbiel gave the Bears a 4-0 advantage.

After Bradley got a pair of two-out singles in the top of the fourth and stranded a pair, Missouri State added a run in the bottom half of the inning.  Plummer ripped a one-out double and came home on a double by Hunsaker as the Bears pushed their lead to 5-0.

A hit batter and single put two on for Missouri State in the bottom of the fifth.  The Bears' lead was 6-0 when Payton Minnis hit a RBI single up the middle, driving in Ellie McCoy.

After surrendering a Badgley single to leadoff the top of the sixth, Dickerson got a double play and retired the final five batters she faced as she struck out the side in the top of the seventh to close out her 19th victory of the year.

Bradley wraps up the 2022 regular-season schedule next weekend, hosting league-leading Northern In a three-game series at Petersen Hotels Field at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.  The Braves and Panthers open the series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
