Nielsen Sisters Advance to 800m Quarterfinals

FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Sisters Julia Nielsen and Wilma Nielsen both advanced to the the quarterfinal round of the Women's 800m, highlighting the first day of action for Bradley at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary at John McConnell Field.

Running together in the second of six heats in the first round of the Women's 800m, Wilma Nielsen automatically qualified for Saturday's quarterfinal round by finishing third in the heat in a time of 2:06.07. Julia Nielsen, who won the family battle to earn the individual title in the event during the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month, finished fourth in the heat in a time of 2:06.75.

With the top three finishers in each heat advancing earning automatic advancement, the last six spots in the quarterfinals came from the top six remaining times in the 48-runner field. Julia Nielsen's spot among those six came down to the final heat and she moved on with the 18th-best overall time, fourth among the non-automatics.

Sophomore Tiana LoStracco was the first Bradley student-athlete to compete in the West Preliminary by competing in the first round of the Women's 1,500m. Running the in the final of four event heats, LoStracco finished seventh among her 12-person grouping in a time of 4:23.95.

The men will take over John McConnell Field Friday, when Bradley will be represented in the 3,000m Steeplechase by junior Charlie Parrish. Four Bradley women will compete in the final day of action Saturday: sophomore Sophia McDonnell in the semifinals of the Women's 3,000m Steeplechase, the Nielsen sisters in the quarterfinals of the Women's 800m and freshman Nicola Jansen in the semifinals of the Women's 5,000m.

All of Bradley's action the final two days will take place during ESPN's streaming coverage on SEC Network Plus.
