Softball Adds Pair Of Transfers

PEORIA, Ill. -- First-year Bradley Softball Head Coach Sarah Willis added some experience to the roster, announcing transfers Angela Cirone (Akron) and Bailey Sample (Bowling Green) will join the Braves for the 2023 season.

"I am excited to announce the addition of two tremendous athletes to the Bradley Braves softball family," said Willis.

A 5-6 outfielder, Cirone (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington/Akron) was the only player to start all 50 games for the Zips this past spring and earned a spot on the Mid-American All-Freshman Team. She hit .247 during a freshman campaign that saw her lead Akron in runs (24) and stolen bases (10).

"Angela's athleticism and tenacity as a competitor makes her a fun athlete to watch," stated Willis. "Her work ethic and softball IQ provide a high ceiling and I am expecting to see great things from her this coming season."

Sample (Benicia, Calif./Benicia/Bowling Green) played for Willis at Bowling Green this past spring and the 5-5 infielder was a high school teammate of Bradley senior Grace French. Starting all 54 games she appeared in, Sample posted a .231 average and led Bowling Green with nine doubles in 2022 as she helped the Falcons to a 2-2 record in the National Invitational Softball Championship in the team's first postseason appearance in 18 years.

"Bailey is a strong athlete, who not only has the versatility on the infield, but the softball IQ and communication to lead," added Willis. "She is a tough competitor that will undoubtedly make an impact on the field within her first year as a Brave."
