Braves Sixth After Day One At Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – A windy and wet day at the par-72 Weibring Golf Club didn't put a damper on the first day of competition in 2022-23 for Bradley Women's Golf, with the Braves closing Sunday's action sixth in the 15-team field.

Sophomore Maria Perakis paced Bradley on the opening with a pair of two-over 74's and sits alone in eighth in the individual standings at four-over 148, six shots behind the co-leaders and four shots out of the top three.

Bradley was four shots better in the afternoon, following up an opening round 306 with a second-round 302 and enters Monday's final round sixth in the team standings at 608. Butler holds a three-shot lead on the field at 594 with Eastern Kentucky following in second at 597. Loyola and IUPUI closed the day in a tie for third at 601, seven shots better than the Braves and two shots ahead of fifth-place Northern Illinois (603).

The top performing Missouri Valley Conference team in the field Sunday, Bradley has a three-shot advantage on seventh-place Drake (611) and six shot edge on tournament-host Illinois State, which is eighth overall 614.

Three Braves are tied for 19^th overall at 152, three shots out of the top 10, after they each chased a first-round 77 with a second-round 75. Senior Mara Flaherty and freshman Allison Pacocha both sit at 152, along with junior Harriet Barker, who is in the field as an individual.

Junior transfer Grace Aromando carded matching 78's to finish Sunday at 156 in a tie for 44^th. Senior Megan Welch rounded out the team scoring for the Braves, one shot back of Aromando in a tie for 51^st at 157 after rounds of 79 and 78.

The final round of the Redbird Invitational tees off Monday at 8:30 a.m.
