Perakis Leads Braves At Season-Opening Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. -- Sophomore Maria Perakis earned the fourth top-20 finish of her career, tying for 17th to lead Bradley Women's Golf to an eighth-place team finish in the 15-team field at the season-opening Redbird Invitational, which wrapped up Monday at the par-72 Weibring Golf Club.

After a pair of 74's during Sunday's opening two rounds, Perakis finished out play with a six-over 78 to tie for 17th overall at 10-over 226. She finished two strokes out of the top 10 and has now been Bradley's top finisher in seven of 11 career tournaments.

Bradley turned in a 314 on the final day to close out action eighth in the 15-team field at 922, three shots back of seventh-place IUPUI (919) and 11 behind tournament-host Illinois State (6th - 911).

Butler claimed the team title at 898, edging second-place Eastern Kentucky (899) by one shot. Loyola took third (903) with Northern Illinois (4th - 908) and Bowling Green (5th - 910) rounding out the top five. The Braves finished one shot ahead of ninth-place Drake (923) and took second among the seven Missouri Valley Conference squads in the field.

Senior Mara Flaherty tied for 28th in the field at 231, carding a final round 79, while freshman Allison Pacocha shot an 80 Monday to tie for 31st overall at 232 in her first collegiate tournament. Junior Grace Aromando had the low round of the day for Bradley, finishing out action with a five-over 77 after a pair of 78's Sunday and tied for 36th overall at 233.

Senior Megan Welch rounded out the team scoring for Bradley with an 80 to finish at 237 in a tie for 52nd. Junior Harriet Barker was in the field as an individual and tied Aromando for 36th overall at 233 following a final-round 81.

Bradley returns to action this weekend, heading to State College, Pa., for the Nittany Lion Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
