PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball lose against Loyola-Chicago in overtime, 67-62.
The game started with Bradley making a defensive stand, forcing the Ramblers to receive a shot clock violation. The Braves passed around the first quarter, with four players scoring a basket to reach eight points. Loyola only had two scorers, yet they combined for 15 points. The first quarter ended 15-8 Ramblers.
Freshman
Halli Poock forced three charges and two steals in the first half leading the Braves on defense. Poock then answered on the offensive side, draining the first three for Bradley. Junior
Alex Rouse led the Braves on the offensive front, going 3-4 from the field, dropping seven points. The Braves entered halftime trailing four, down 25-21.
Bradley got hot at the end of the third quarter, going on a 13-7 run. The run spanned 4:40 minutes in the back half of the third quarter. During the run, the Braves shot 4-6 from the field, 2-4 from three and 3-4 from the line. This push was led by Sophomore
Reagan Barkema who scored seven points. The third ended with Loyola on top, 45-41.
Even with four fouls, Poock came into the fourth quarter and delivered, recording five points including a three-point shot that cut the Ramblers lead down to three. Junior
Kaylen Nelson made a buzzer-beater layup with 48.2 seconds left to cut the lead to one. The Braves went out and made a needed defensive stop off a steal from Rouse. With 11.3 seconds left in regulation, Nelson dropped a three to tie the game. Barkema knocked the ball out of the hands of the Ramblers offensive player with 1.2 seconds left, forcing overtime, 57-57.
Barkema scored a big three for the Braves but it wasn't enough. The Ramblers got the win in overtime, 67-62.
