Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Allison Novak

EVANSTON, Ill. — The Bradley Braves faced a tough opponent in the Northwestern Wildcats at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Despite a strong opening quarter and a standout performance from Soleil Barnes, the Braves could not maintain their momentum, falling 67-57 in a competitive non-conference matchup.

Positive Start for the Braves
Bradley began the game with energy and efficiency, scoring 23 points in the first quarter to take an early lead. Guard Soleil Barnes played a pivotal role, scoring inside and beyond the arc. The team moved the ball well, showing their offensive potential against a solid Wildcats defense.

Notable Performances

  • Soleil Barnes: Barnes delivered an impressive performance, leading all scorers with 26 points. She shot 9-for-21 from the field, including 5-for-12 from three-point range, and contributed 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

  • Tamia Perryman: Perryman added 11 points, hitting two key three-pointers, while also grabbing 5 rebounds.

  • Amy O'Hara: O'Hara made her presence felt on the boards with 6 rebounds and added 5 assists, showcasing her versatility in the paint.

Key Takeaways
The Braves demonstrated their ability to compete with a high-level opponent, particularly in the first quarter. Their three-point shooting was a strength, as the team hit nine from beyond the arc. Barnes continued her excellent form, and Perryman and O'Hara provided crucial support. However, Northwestern's dominance in the paint (40 points compared to Bradley's 16) and points off turnovers (22 for Northwestern) proved decisive.

Moving Forward
With the loss, Bradley's record falls to 5-4 on the season. Despite the setback, Barnes' scoring prowess and the team's perimeter shooting remain positive signs heading into Missouri Valley Conference play. Improvements in rebounding and interior defense will be focal points as the Braves look to bounce back.

What's Next
Bradley will wrap up non-conference action in Florida, where they will play in the Hatter Classic. Action starts Dec. 19 against Bethune-Cookman at 12:30 CT.
