Soleil Barnes named Newcomer of the Week for second consecutive week

Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball's Soleil Barnes Named MVC Newcomer of the Week for second consecutive week.

Senior guard Soleil Barnes has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Week for her performance during the week of Dec. 9–16. A transfer from the University of Toledo, Barnes has elevated the Braves' offensive output this season.

In Bradley's two Big 10 match-ups this week, Barnes came up strong for her squad establishing her leadership within the program. Against Illinois, Barnes played 34 minutes and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 2-for-2. She posted five rebounds, four assists, and 12 points. 

Soleil Barnes came up big against Northwestern, hitting her career-high in points, minutes, field goals made, and rebounds. She recorded 26 points, went perfect from the free-throw line (3-for-3), and added seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 

Barnes currently is the best free-throw shooter in the Valley, with .960. She also is in the top five for three-point field goals per game (2.4), top 10 in assists, and top 20 in steals (1.6), minutes (31.0), and scoring three-point field goal percentage, further solidifying her impact on the court.

This recognition marks Barnes' second MVC honor and the first Bradley player to have back-to-back Newcomer of the Week nominations since Lasha Petree in 2019.
