VALPARAISO, Ind.– The Braves propelled for a monstrous fifth inning, to take game one of the three game series at Valpo on Friday night.

Valparaiso got out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding a fourth in the third to go up 4-0 on the Braves.
The Braves found the bats in the fifth inning, exploding for 7 runs. Bailey Sample led the charge with an RBI single to score Lauren DeRolf, following a lead-off triple.
Sydney Kennedy re-entered the game as a pinch hitter, with the bases loaded and sailed a grand slam for the Braves to put the Braves up 5-4.
Bradley was not done there; Austin Comstock roped a double to score Kierston McCoy to add to the Braves' lead.
In similar fashion, Addison Pettit hit a double to score McCoy, tallying the final run for the Braves in the fifth and putting the score at 7-4.
"We made adjustments to the strike zone and had better discipline," said Head Coach Sarah Willis. "Our pinch hitters were clutch for us and they were ready to jump on their pitches."
Abbott Badgley took the win for the Braves, coming in after Kennedy exited the game in the first.
"Abbott did a great job coming into relief so early and keeping their offense at bay," said Sarah Willis. "She made that game hers and gave our defense an opportunity to keep us in the game."
Badgley recorded 2 strikeouts and 1 earned run in 6.1 innings pitched.
