PEORIA, Ill. – Jillian Cosler, a special talent on and off the golf course
Cosler, originally from Orland Park, IL, took her freshman year by storm. Jillian ended her season with three top-10 finishes and two top-20 placements. She placed seventh in the Bradley Coyote Creek Classic to help the team earn a first-place finish. Continuing her dominance, Jillian, at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, was first on her team and 12th in the MVC. Along with her impressive golf talent, another piece of Jillian's story needs to be highlighted.
Cosler's family played a big part in her golf journey, as she has credited them for playing a huge role in her development.
"My family played a huge role in my love for golf. My Grandparents all played and so did my older siblings. It was something we could do all together no matter the age," Said Cosler.
Cosler's family continues to impact her life, as they have provided memories that will last her a lifetime. When she was younger, her family and neighbors would vacation together in Florida, spending the days at the beach and the pool. They would also spend time together playing games such as competitive uno, in which they created winners and losers tables using a top boat as a trophy for the winner. Her trips to Florida are memories that will last forever.
"This was such a simple, laid-back vacation, but being together as one big family was such a memorable childhood experience. It is truly something I will remember for the rest of my life."
Along with spending time with her family, she involves herself in any activity outside the house during her free time. In particular, there are trails by her home where she bikes, walks, and runs. A bucket list item is to go white water rafting in Colorado, or anywhere she can hike and be outside throughout the trip.
Although Cosler has had many great experiences on and off the golf course, her story includes challenges along her journey. Unfortunately, Cosler has lost multiple family members over the last couple of years including her grandmother, grandfather, aunt, and uncle. Even though most of them didn't know much about golf, they still showed their endless support throughout Jillian's playing career. They brought joy and smiles, which Cosler has carried with her throughout the beginning of her college career.
"All of my family members mean the world to me, so losing them has been hard but even if they are gone they are never forgotten."
With her challenges, Bradley provided her with a support system. Cosler views her ability to represent the university as a special experience.
"Representing Bradley University embodies so many different things. Every time I step on the course I want to play with determination, but also respect, honesty, and gratitude. Being on this team is like being part of a second family. We support each other endlessly and that is what is so special."
