Sydney Kennedy has earned national recognition as one of the premier Pitcher/Utility players in NCAA Softball. The senior from Peosta, Iowa, was ranked No. 13 in D1Softball's Dual Threat rankings released Tuesday, placing her ahead of several high-profile players, including conference Freshman of the Year winners, All-Conference selections, and weekly award honorees.
A Rare Talent
Kennedy's dual-threat abilities have drawn high praise from coaches and analysts alike. "Sydney Kennedy is the type of ballplayer that doesn't come along very often," said Softball Head Coach Sarah Willis. "Her aptitude and talent as a pitcher are matched by the impact she brings to the lineup. She is a competitor with a relentless mindset that allows her to excel in both arenas."
Dominating for the Braves
Now in her second season on the Hilltop, Kennedy has become a cornerstone for Bradley Softball. In 2024, she led the Braves in several key offensive and pitching categories:
-
Batting average: .333
-
ERA: 2.09
-
Wins: 19
-
Complete games: 17
-
Strikeouts: 184
-
Shutouts: 6
Her impressive stats place her among the program's all-time greats. She ranks fifth in single-season pitching victories (19), ninth in innings pitched (204.2), and fifth in strikeouts (184).
Highlight Moments
Kennedy's 2024 campaign was marked by several historic performances. On March 23, she threw the first no-hitter by a Brave in two years and the first home no-hitter since 1994, blanking Missouri State. A week later, she delivered a 10-inning, one-hit complete game shutout against Valparaiso.
Her contributions at the plate were equally impactful. On March 29, she went 3-for-4 against Valparaiso, hitting a grand slam that sparked a seven-run rally just a day after her 10-inning pitching masterpiece.
Recognition and Awards
Kennedy's standout season earned her Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year honors and a spot on the All-MVC First Team, cementing her status as one of the conference's elite players.
