Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball crushed the Chicago State Cougars, 85-57, on Sunday to begin their three-game homestand.
A Strong Second Quarter
The Braves and Cougars went back and forth early in the first quarter, but Bradley came out on top with an 18-16 advantage. The Braves stepped up their game in the second quarter, holding Chicago State to just six points, while going on an 11-point run to increase their lead to 39-22 heading into halftime. Maya Foz led the team with 12 points in the first half, including two 3-pointers.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Foz finished the day with a team-leading 19 points while adding five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Tamia Perryman recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, adding an assist and a steal. Kaylen Nelson fell just two rebounds short of her own double-double, scoring 14 points with eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Caitlin Washington totaled double-digit scoring for the first time as a Brave, scoring 10 points while adding a rebound.
A Strong Second Half
Bradley came out firing in the third quarter, scoring 27 points to extend their lead to 25. Bradley went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc in the third while hitting 10 of 18 from the field. The Braves' dominant play continued in the fourth quarter as they started it with an eight-point run thanks to an Ellie McDermid three-pointer, Kali Fortson layup, and a Lila Posthuma deep ball. Bradley took home the win with a final score of 85-57.
Defensive Notes
The Braves did a phenomenal job of grabbing boards and keeping possessions alive, as they scored 19 second-chance points and out-rebounded the Cougars 52-46. Bradley also had 10 steals and forced 19 turnovers overall while only having 11 of their own. Chicago State made their first three-point attempt of the game and didn't make a single one after that, shooting 1-for-9 from beyond the arc. The Braves also held the Cougars to just 25-for-69 from the field.
