Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball defeated the Indiana State Sycamores on Sunday to improve their home record to 7-0 on the season.
A Contested First Half
The Sycamores jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the first quarter, but three-pointers from Maya Foz and Tamia Perryman tied the game and set the tone. Both teams went back and forth for the remainder of the opening 10 minutes, and a late jumper by Indiana State sent the teams into the second quarter tied at 19. The Sycamores took control in the second quarter with a nine-point run, but both teams continued to battle. A late three-pointer from Kaylen Nelson cut Indiana State's lead to three heading into halftime.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Perryman had another phenomenal game, tying for the team lead with 20 points while adding five assists, three blocks, two rebounds, and a steal. Nelson continued her strong play, finishing the game with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Foz extended her double-digit scoring streak to eight, totaling 12 points, three rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Mya Wardle came two assists shy of a double-double, tallying 10 points, eight assists, two rebounds, and a steal.
Taking Control in the Second Half
Indiana State opened the second half with a five-point run, but a 10-point run by the Braves allowed them to take the lead, which they did not relinquish for the rest of the quarter, giving them a 61-54 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. The Sycamores opened the fourth quarter with a 10-point run to take the lead, but neither team could keep the momentum after that. A three-pointer from Perryman with 2:30 remaining flipped the momentum as Bradley took the lead and later went on a seven-point run to secure the 79-74 win.
Defensive Notes
The Braves struggled to maintain their pressure that they have been known for this season, committing 18 turnovers compared to the Sycamores' 15 and Indiana State recorded 13 steals, compared to Bradley's four. However, the Braves made shots when they mattered, going 11-for-24 from beyond the arc, including 5-for-9 during their 27-point third quarter, which helped fuel their comeback. Bradley also punished Indiana State when they made mistakes, scoring 12 points off the Sycamores' turnovers.
