Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Ben Kinealy

Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball remains undefeated at home after their dominant 79-39 win over the Valparaiso Beacons on Friday.

A Dominant First Half

The Braves took an early advantage, but the Beacons kept the game close for the majority of the first quarter. However, Bradley scored 10 of the last 12 points in the opening 10 minutes to secure a 25-16 lead heading into the second quarter. The Braves came out with a mission to put this game out of reach, and they did just that by going on a 22-point run to start the quarter. Valparaiso scored their first basket of the quarter with 2:35 left on the clock on a fast-break three-pointer. With their dominant play, Bradley took a 51-21 lead into halftime, holding the Beacons to just five points for the entire second quarter.

Standout Performances for Bradley

Kaylen Nelson continued her phenomenal play as of late, leading the team with 21 points while adding six rebounds, one block, and one steal. Maya Foz also had a strong game, finishing with 18 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal while shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Caitlin Washington set a new career high with 11 points, adding four rebounds and one assist. Ellie McDermid contributed across the stat sheet. In just 20 minutes of play, she had eight points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal.

Taking Home the Win

The Braves didn't take their foot off the gas in the third quarter, keeping up with the Beacons' scoring pace and rattling off an eight-point run to ensure the game was out of reach. Two late free throws from Valparaiso cut the Braves' lead down to 69-34 as the two teams headed into the final 10 minutes of play. The fourth quarter was low scoring as Nelson nailed two three-pointers and Micah Cooper hit two jumpers to give Bradley 10 points compared to the five that Valparaiso totaled. Bradley took home the win 79-39.

Defensive Notes

The Braves had one of their best defensive games of the season, holding Valparaiso to 12-for-54 from the field and 3-for-18 from beyond the arc. Bradley scored 26 points off the Beacons' 18 turnovers, and the Braves forced 10 steals and had six blocks. Bradley also outrebounded Valparaiso 44-37, limiting them to just eight second-chance points.

Coming Up…

The Braves continue their homestand on Sunday, January 25, when they take on the UIC Flames at 2 p.m.
